Satyakama is a Dasiputra; his mother Jabali raises him herself. He wants to join as a pupil (Shishya) in the gurukul of sage Gautama. Sage Gautama asks for Satyakama's gotra. Satyakama replies that according to his mother, his father cannot be identified. His frank expression pleases Gautama, and he accepted Satyakama as his Shishya. 1. Satyakama Jabali had the courage of conviction to reveal this unpalatable truth despite the consequences. Mother and son lived in Satyam Vada. 2. Gautama's action of admitting Satyakama into his gurukul shows his courage of conviction in practising and living Dharma. 3 Gautama's action demonstrates the doctrine of karma Friends and relatives will be part of one's journey till death.
